Acidification of drinking water for swines

Pigs, and especially piglets, can benefit from the acidification through drinking water: administering organic acids can limit the development of bacteria (E-Coli, Salmonella, Clostridium, etc.) and improve the conditions of the animals’ digestive flora.

The Advantages of Dosatron Technology

Dosatron proportional dosing pumps guarantee the correct organic acid dosage regardless of the permanent variations in water pressure and water flow rate (due to animal random drinking behavior).

The non-electric, self-priming Dosatron pumps, which also work with gravity pressure (header tanks), ensure that organic acids are added to the drinking water under the best possible conditions. They provide consistent and uniform dilution and make it easy to read and adjust the dosing percentage. They can be run empty (without additives) without any risk of damage or interrupting the water supply to the animals. They are also quick and easy to maintain on-site.

Acidification with Dosatron D25AO Expert Pumps (non diluted organic acids)

1. Dosatron Animal Health dosing pump D25AL or DIA4AL (pre diluted organic acids) or Dosatron D25AO (0.1% to 0.9% | 1ml/L to 9ml/L) Expert pump (high chemical resistance for non diluted organic acids). 
   The D3WL3000VFK or D9WL3000VFK Water Line pumps for water disinfection can also be used for non diluted organic acids (minimum dosing: 0.03% | 0.3ml/L).
2. 80 micron filter.
3. Water meter.
4. Pressure reducer.
5. 3 Bypass valves.
6. 2 Valves or taps (1 before the Dosatron for tank filling / cleaning and 1 after Dosatron for fast priming / flushing / testing).
7. Pre-dilution tank or commercial drum of the organic acids (no pre dilution).

Tips for Installing, Using and Maintaining your Dosatron

• Install an 80 micron filter before the dosing pump and an accurate low flow water meter (Class D - R500) to monitor your water consumption.
• If installed on a drinking water main line, you must ensure that your installation complies with the applicable disconnection standards (back-flow prevention system such as Class B disconnectors).
• Install the Dosatron in bypass on the water supply with 2 valves / taps before and after the Dosatron,

• • 1 valve / tap for clear water.
  • 1 valve / tap for quick rinsing / priming / testing of the dosing pump.

• Always rinse the tank and let the Dosatron inject clean water after each treatment.
• Use a graduated mixing tank designed to limit residues at the end of the treatment.
• When pre-diluting an acid (AL or Standard dosing pumps) in the tank, always pour the acid into the water and not the other way round.
  Predilution example: If you pre-dilute the organic acid by 5 (1L of acid + 4L of water), you will need to set the Dosatron dosing rate to a level (%) 5 times higher.
• Make sure that your drinkers are correctly adjusted (in terms of pressure / flow rate) and do the sanitation of your drinking water system during depopulation (empty barn).
• Remember to change the dosing pump injection seals at least once a year.
• Stop acidification 12 to 24 hours before administering any incompatible vaccination and / or treatment.
